Before you turn your back on physiotherapy Canary Wharf, let us see how it works. Physio e14 is done to rejuvenate the body back to its normal function. If you are interested in an enhanced quality of life, visiting a physiotherapist sw1 is one way of getting started.

A physiotherapist sw1 will assess an individual?s body entirely without focusing on the main cause of pain. An individual can approach a physiotherapist e14 with back pain problems while the underlying cause of the pain could be much more than what is observed from face value. Many physiotherapists London suggest that back pains can result due to a number of causes. There are those who need physioe14 due to back pains caused by standing for long hours or sitting in the wrong posture. Others may need physiotherapy Canary Wharf due to back pain caused by lifting heavy objects frequently. Muscle tension has also been a substantial cause of back problems reported by physiotherapists today. Every patient who visits a physiotherapist sw1is entitled to the knowledge and explanation of how it works and the underlying problem that needs to be corrected. Even as, a physiotherapist sw1 advises you on ways of managing your condition, you should be able to air out your opinion regarding the course of treatment.

If you want to understand how physiotherapy Canary Wharf works, you have to understand the different techniques a physiotherapist sw1 may choose to employ on his patients. The first and most common method of physio e14 is massage. During a massage, the physiotherapist sw1 uses the hands to manipulate soft tissues of the body. Most people prefer the physiotherapist sw1 to recommend massages as they tend to relax the body by enhancing better circulation of blood around the body. People suffering from neck problems, frequent headaches or even stress, can seek massage physio e14 as one way of dealing with such conditions.

The other common physio e14 technique is movement and physical exercises programs. There are those practical exercises that a physiotherapist sw1 may suggest like walking and swimming to improve mobility after having suffered an illness or injury. Exercise, if done regularly, are extremely beneficial in strengthening a person?s body and at the same time rejuvenate specific areas of the body that need healing.

The latest form of physio e14 is commonly referred to as electrotherapy. Electrotherapy mainly involves the use of energy to stimulate the nervous system so that your muscles contract to relieve pain and promote healing. Electrotherapy may be implemented using a variety of techniques which are determined by the type of energy used. The physiotherapy Canary Wharf may involve electric currents or impulses.

When electric currents are used to encourage the release of endorphins (the body?s natural painkillers), the method is referred to as TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation). In other cases, physiotherapy Canary Wharf is done by using lasers which are directed to the affected region to ease pain and muscle spasms. A physiotherapist will suggest laser therapy if you are suffering from tendon conditions. People with deep tissue injuries can speed up the healing process by using ultrasound. There is no need to worry because the physiotherapist sw1 will always recommend the best treatment method suited for your condition.

Isaac's Impacts: Destruction from 'Just a Cat 1' Storm

When Hurricane Isaac swept ashore as a Category 1 storm, its destructive power seemingly took some by surprise. As images of submerged houses and news of dramatic rooftop rescues made the rounds, the Web was abuzz with expressions of disbelief that a mere "Cat 1" storm could be the culprit for the catastrophe unfolding before people's eyes.

"Man that's just too much water to be a Category 1 or tropical storm," wrote @KeepNUpWithMike, reflecting the sentiments of many Twitter users.

Yet these labels ? Category 1 hurricane, tropical storm? are based only on top sustained wind speeds. And although that's important, it's by no means the only factor that determines a storm's appetite for destruction, explained Tim Schott, a meteorologist at National Weather Service headquarters in Silver Spring, Md. "There are other factors that can be critical as well," he told OurAmazingPlanet.

However, none of these other factors are used to rank hurricanes on the Saffir-Simpson Scale. And some scientists argue that since the labels reflect only one facet of a storm's destructive power, it's time to change the way we categorize tropical storms and hurricanes.

Yet all forecasters emphasized that storms that are comparatively low on the hurricane scale can still cause horrific damage.

"A lot of the news media and people in general have noted this is only a Category 1 storm, but [Isaac's effects] show that Category 1 is just the description of the winds," Schott said. [Images: Hurricane Isaac Packs a Punch]

Causes of destruction

Along with wind speed, the sheer size of a storm, how quickly it is moving and the angle at which it's approaching land also influence its potential to wreak havoc. Isaac possessed some of the most menacing of these qualities.

First, Isaac is simply a big storm, said Chris Landsea, the science and operations officer at the National Hurricane Center in Miami. "Ever since it formed, it's been a large tropical cyclone," he told OurAmazingPlanet.

Bigger storms have a wider reach, affecting more people, and they're also tied to more severe storm surge, or "the ocean being pushed ashore," as Landsea described it.

"Isaac's storm surge is extended all the way to the Florida panhandle," Schott said, adding that parts of Louisiana have seen inundation as high as 11 feet (3 meters).

Isaac is also moving slowly. The storm crept along at about 6 mph (9 kph) for most of Tuesday and Wednesday, and is moving at 8 mph (13 kph) today (Aug. 30) ? a snail's pace for a storm. That means it's hammering the same areas with heavy downpours for hours, even days, at a time.

Even relatively wimpy storms can cause terrible damage if they stay parked in place, Landsea and Schott said, since the unending rains can spark inland flooding. Isaac has reportedly dropped some 23 inches (58 centimeters) of rain near Gretna, La., according to unofficial numbers from the National Hurricane Center.

The direction of a storm's approach also plays a role in its destructive power ? certain angles promote greater storm surge, said Robert Henson, a meteorologist who works as a science writer for the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, in Boulder, Colo.

Isaac hit the Gulf Coast?along a track moving from southeast to northwest. Since hurricanes and tropical storms spin counterclockwise (in the Northern Hemisphere, at least), Louisiana lay in the path of the winds as they swung northward and westward, allowing the storm to push even more ocean water toward land. In that situation, a tropical cyclone "will pile up more water," Henson said.

What's in a name?

Yesterday afternoon, Isaac was downgraded to a tropical storm ? its winds dropped to 70 mph (110 kph), falling 4 mph short of the dividing line between a Category 1 hurricane and a tropical storm.

"Whew #Isaac down to a Tropical Storm," wrote Sam Champion, the weather anchor for ABC's "Good Morning America," just after the National Hurricane Center (NHC) announced the storm was no longer a hurricane.

Yet the message from the NHC wasn't one to inspire relief: "Isaac weakens to a tropical storm. Life-threatening hazards from storm surge and inland flooding are still occurring," forecasters wrote. [Video: Isaac Makes Landfall]

The downgrade had done little to change immediate conditions on the ground.

Quite a few tropical storms and Category 1 hurricanes have proved incredibly destructive in the past, yet their power still seems to surprise. Just last year, Irene made landfall in New York as a strong tropical storm, and caused some $19 billion in damage, Henson said ? much of it because of horrific flooding.

In the face of continued shock at the power of relatively low-ranked storms, some say that the labels themselves can promote a false sense of security.

"The public has really latched onto the Saffir-Simpson category number," said Mark Powell, an atmospheric scientist with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) hurricane research division.

"They know what category they're going to move for, and if they hear something is just a tropical storm or just a Category 1, they may think it's not worth considering evacuation or even putting shutters on," Powell said, emphasizing that these are his views as a scientist, and not necessarily those of NOAA.

Powell has partnered with an engineer to come up with a different way to quantify hurricanes. The system takes more factors than wind speed into consideration when labeling a storm. Called Integrated Kinetic Energy, the methodology tries to paint a more nuanced portrait of a storm's power by accounting for its overall wind energy, and looking at its sheer size, both of which affect its destructive potential.

"We've tried pretty hard to push for changing the way we're doing things right now so these large storms are given more consideration," Powell said. "Unfortunately, this is an area that is in desperate need of change, but has not changed yet."

Tips And Advice For The Stock Market Beginner

Tips And Advice For The Stock Market Beginner

Posted on August 29, 2012 by William Tan in The Smart Investor

Whether you?re an experienced trader or just starting out, everyone can benefit from stock market advice. Besides buying low and selling high, there are several helpful tips to increase profits! If you want to be as lucrative as possible when venturing into the stock market, follow the tips in this article.

Keep an open mind when thinking about stock price. One particular rule in math that could not be avoided is that your earnings do not depend on the amount of assets you purchase. Waiting a week or so for a stock that is unattractive at $50 to drop to a more reasonable $30 is a wiser decision.

Do not become afraid of other investments and scared to leave the market. Life can get rough, or finances tight, and taking time off is okay in those situations. Doing this may help keep you away from emotional trades, and that can save you money. When you?re ready to start again, stocks will be waiting for you.

Don?t listen to unsolicited stock recommendations. Your broker or financial adviser offer solicited advice, and that?s worth taking. Ignore the other speculation from other sources. No substitute exists for researching on your own, especially when a large amount of stock tips are being given by people who are paid to give advice.

Practice before putting money into the stock market. Using stock software is not always necessary. Just select a stock, record its current price and identify your reasons for choosing it. Next you should keep an eye on how the stock changes over time. It will give you the insight as to whether your theories for investing hold any validity without the monetary risk.

Don?t make an attempt to time markets. History has shown that people who steadily invest even sums of money over time do better in the long run. Figure out how much of your monthly income you are comfortable investing. Put this amount into the stock market and continue to do so regularly.

Keep in mind that when you purchase stocks, you buy ownership. Some people buy simply because they hear the stock is good, but it is important to remember that buying a stock means you are purchasing a portion of the company. It is your responsibility to do your research so you know whether you are making good choices. This way you don?t lose the money you?ve invested.

Instead of buying a few costly stocks, try buying more affordable ones. Such stocks will be easier to manage and easier to sell. It will also take off some of the pressure that typically comes with selling an expensive stock.

Many stocks pay dividends and should therefore be added to your portfolio. With a dividend stock, you can offset most stock loss through the dividend. But, when the stock rises in price, the increased dividends are usually just a bonus that will increase your capital gains. These investments can be looked at as income.

Stock Market

Although it is fine to have a passion for the stock market, do not let it take over your life. An obsession in anything, including the stock market, can seriously hurt your personal relationships and can result in mistakes if you stay up for all hours.

Start out with stocks you are familiar with. If you know of a stock that has a strong history of growth or you are exceptionally familiar with a specific industry, consider buying a few shares. This is a fantastic strategy to help you get used to being in the market, and it does not create more risk exposure than you are comfortable with. It allows you to get returns immediately, giving you motivation to keep trying.

Damaged stocks are good, but damaged companies are not. A temporary downturn in a company?s stock value is the perfect time to get in at a great price, but be sure that the drop is, in fact, temporary. Investor panic, due to an important but repairable problem, can cause a sharp drop in a stock?s price. But any company involved in a serious scandal may never be the same again and is probably best avoided.

The input of a financial adviser can be very useful, even if it is your intention to do all of your own stock selection and trading. An expert will provide you with more than suggestions for purchases, they?ll provide invaluable trading advice. They will help you figure out how much you are at risk and look at your long term goals to determine a timeline. You can work together to create a plan customized to your needs, which will bring the best returns.

Doing your research and really studying a stock can be a huge help in making profitable investments. Seek out the facts for yourself instead of taking random recommendations at face value. If you use the tips you have learned here, you will profit from your investments.

When you analyze stocks, you want to examine its price to earnings and other ratios to determine how much earnings potential it has. In simplistic terms, you should be paying about 50% less for a stock than its projected earnings. So, if you are looking at a stock with a 10% projected return, the price to earnings ratio should be no more than 20.

Writers Helping Writers--Ways of Generating... | Gather

?You are never given a dream without being given the power to make it true. You may have to work for it, however."

~Richard Bach

(Note:? Sorry this took so long to post--I wanted to have this up last night but had some technical difficulties.)

?

Based on my personal experiences, there are two main ?secrets? to building an income and career in writing that I didn?t know starting out.? One is that the whole idea of overnight/get-rich-quick success is a myth.? When I began researching the careers of my favorite authors, many of them started out in financial situations most of us can find relatable.? They worked other jobs or had another business to pay for their living expenses while they got off the ground?the timeframe for this to happen ranging from several years to several decades.? I don?t mean this as a discouragement?quite the opposite?but long-term you have better chances of success by building a good foundation first.? I?m going to discuss ways of doing this later in the article.

The second was that writing has such flexibility as a career skill that there are both existing opportunities and a wide-open space to create a custom opportunity of your own.? If you need something immediate?something resembling more of a job/work-at-home format, I had a good experience going through the website odesk.com.? It?s basically job bidding/outsourcing that can work in your favor.? For example, I was able to work for a small company in California?writing copy for their website at $16/hour?from my home in Tennessee a couple of years ago.? If you maintain 3-4 part-time clients at a high rate (based on your skill level as a writer and the willingness to filter your opportunities), you could turn it into a full-time job.? The only downside I saw in this was most jobs require you to give exclusive rights of your writing to the clients (mainly to avoid you offering the same information to their competitors since it?s mainly nonfiction/technical writing), but the site did pay and on time.? Overall, I have a positive opinion of them if you?re in the stage of needing to cover bad habits like eating and sleeping indoors, and you can use it as a way to build a portfolio and experience if your primary interest is nonfiction.

When I first started writing online for income (around the middle of 2007), a lot of websites were also starving for general content.? I made several thousand dollars working with eHow, Helium, Hubpages, and similar sites that pay based on how much an article was worth from an advertising standpoint.? I started doing the math, and the realization occurred to me that if I was making $300/month with ?x? number of articles (once you wrote an article, it would continue to generate income for you every month) that I would just need ten times ?x? to get to $3,000/month.? That concept?called residual or passive income in general business circles?is something every writer needs to understand.? It?s different from job income in a lot of ways?seems insignificant at the beginning but then snowballs as you build it.? If you want more information on how that works from a math standpoint, I recommend business authors like Robert G. Allen, Seth Godin, Robert Kiyosaki, and Tim Ferris.

If you want to start out writing articles for other websites, pay careful attention to the contract agreements.? If a site wants exclusive rights (ownership) of your work, I personally see this as a red flag?especially if the pay if very low relative to the effort involved.? What is more common now is the request that your articles be exclusive to a site for a period of time?a year, for example?before you republish it with another website.? It?s still non-exclusive rights (you still own the content) but with a condition.? This stems from a common SEO (search engine optimization?basically formatting your work to where it ranks high on Google and similar searches) issue.? Since writers are often members of multiple article sites, there was the tendency to write an article for one then copy it over to the others?more income for the writers in the short term, but it created a flood of repeat information and a headache for the website owners.? Now it?s the uniqueness of your content (combined with the overall demand for the topic) that?s more valuable compared to the sheer quantity you can churn out.? I understand that change and have adapted my strategy.? If you?re just beginning to write, it?s something that you should know upfront.

Many writing magazines now have articles about building a platform and branding.? If your goal is to build a long-term career (you enjoy writing and wouldn?t mind spending 10+ years pursuing it), it would be worth your time to read some marketing books even prior to publishing your first book.? Two that I?ve found helpful are The Essential Guide to Getting Your Book Published and Guerrilla Marketing for Writers.? If you start early with this?even if it?s with a very simple website or blog of your own?you?ll have the advantage of building an established audience over time.? This can be done for free with a template-based site (Blogger, Wordpress, etc.), and later changed into a site with a domain name that you can choose and have maintained.? Again, this is not an overnight thing.? It?s the combination of little daily actions over the course of time.? Social networks?Gather, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.?also have advantages that can help you.? When used correctly?not abused with actions like constant spamming and overselling?they serve as a way for readers to get to know you as a person.

I?ve seen a range of statistics, but I?ve read that between 70-80% of people in America have at least entertained the idea of writing a book.? Right now the overall economy and the publishing industry as a whole are in a lot of upheaval?leaving many aspiring writers at a loss on how to even get started with the process.? There are both advantages and disadvantages to the paths of traditional publishing and various forms of self-publishing?and my opinion is you should keep yourself open to both sides.? If you have a connection in the industry, definitely pick their brain and get as much insider advice as possible.? If you?re in a situation similar to how I started out (didn?t know anyone and the first person in my family to graduate college), the combination of joining online and local groups can help a lot.? Talk with a lot of people and check out multiple sources?I?ve sat in meetings where the ?expert? in the room gave what I knew from experience was bad advice, but when you don?t know any better it can be easy to dive into something based on someone?s word.? Even with anything I share with you, be sure to verify it outside of me?with as fast as things change (companies buying each other out, etc.), what may have been a good opportunity at one point may not be later.

If your goal is to pursue traditional publishing from the very beginning, I would recommend looking into the books and resources available through Writer?s Digest?well-known for its Writer?s Market books with listings of publishers and literary agents.? These books can walk you through the process?how to do a query letter, the expectations of publishers, etc.? Depending on your work?and more recently your existing platform and audience?there is a waiting process for agents and publishers to get back to you.? If you look at things from their perspective?especially if it?s a company that?s concerned about their own survival and bottom line right now?rejections aren?t personal.? In financial terms, not all authors who are given an advance for a book end up breaking even?which makes any new writer seem like a gamble.? The more you can show a traditional publisher by doing your own initial research (rather than expecting them to do it for you), the greater chance you have of standing out from the slush.

Before I get into self-publishing, there?s a common scam?somehow technically legal?of vanity publishers making themselves out to be traditional publishers.? If you?re asked to submit a manuscript?only to soon after (Did they even have time to read it?) get a glowing response of how you?re going to be a best-seller and how much they want to help you?but you need to send them large sums of money first?you hopefully see where this is heading.? There?s a similar scam with people posing to be agents.? Just be careful in general?check companies out with the Better Business Bureau website and have an objective person in your life that you can run things by before you make a decision.? This is also another reason to be part of online and local writing groups?you can ask other writers if they?ve ever heard of or dealt with the company or person.

Over the course of the past few years, legitimate self-publishing has been getting a lot of attention?and you?ll find people with a variety of opinions on it and often good reasons behind each perspective.? I?m self-published and love it for its efficiency--as a series author I currently don?t have to wade through any red tape to get something done, and I make more money per sale than many traditionally published authors.? This is done by working with major companies like Amazon, Apple, and Barnes & Noble either directly or as close as possible.? Secondary sources for POD (print-on-demand) publishers would be CreateSpace (owned by Amazon) and Lulu.com (has better terms for international writers).? For ebooks, Amazon has Kindle Direct Publishing (look for the ?Independently Publish With Us? link at the bottom of their main page).? You can get carried on both Barnes & Noble's website and iTunes through Lulu.com.? Barnes & Noble also has the site PubIt.com specifically for the nook.? All of these companies work on a percentage of your sales and won?t ask you for money upfront (with the exception of if you wanted to purchase a physical proof copy of your book prior to selling it?which while a good idea is still technically optional).? Before you make any decisions, look over as much information as possible on these websites so you understand the terms and guidelines of each company.

Regardless to which path you take to publication, your work isn?t over.? Traditional publishers have tighter budgets compared to the past, so even with the mutual interest in your success they are not an unlimited marketing piggybank.? If you?re self-publishing, you need to sit down and create a budget (I use percentages) on where you want to direct the money from your sales.? Sitting down with an accountant and/or a professional tax advisor is also a good idea?ideally long before things get bigger.? If you develop good habits and a system at the very beginning, you?ll save yourself a lot of future headaches.

I enjoy the marketing/sales aspects of being a writer?getting to meet readers in person, talking about what I?m doing, etc.?but I?ve had to work at it.? There?s a major shift between working on a computer for hours at a time and suddenly being around a lot of people, and every writer is going to be different in finding a balance between the two.? I?ve learned this from small businesses in general, but over time you can build a team around you that can help you in your weak areas.? Getting out of your comfort zone?being nervous but going forward anyway?does get easier over time.

I hope you?ve found this overview helpful, and I want to encourage other Gather authors to share their experiences as well.? If you have any specific questions, I?ll try my best to answer them.? Have a great night!

Tricia

New 54.5 mpg rule 'will change way industry operates"

AP

Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne says muscle cars such as the Hemi-V8-powered Dodge Challenger will become "as rare as white flies."

By Paul A. Eisenstein, NBC News contributor

?After an unexpected delay, the White House has finalized the biggest jump in the Corporate Average Fuel Economy, or CAFE, standard since the government first set mileage guidelines in 1978.

As part of a broad compromise hammered out between the auto industry, environmental groups and government regulators, the fuel economy of the typical car, truck or crossover will nearly double between now and 2025, to an average 54.5 miles per gallon. That?s a more than 50 percent?jump, meanwhile, from the CAFE rules the Obama rules had previously approved for 2016.

?These fuel standards represent the single most important step we?ve ever taken to reduce our dependence on foreign oil,? Obama declared, while also cutting CO2 emissions by an estimated 50 percent.

But far less certain is the impact the new rules will have on the auto industry and on the motorists of 2025.? Naysayers have warned that, at 54.5 mpg, tomorrow?s cars will be smaller, largely battery-based and significantly more expensive.? Proponents of the CAFE increase dismiss such forecasts as fear-mongering and insist things will change less than people anticipate.

For his part, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne believes the industry will be able to make the new target ? even though the rules do provide a mid-term analysis to ensure things remain on track.? A future administration could roll the numbers back if there?s trouble.

But Marchionne insisted, the new rules ?will change the way this industry operates,? adding his belief that, at 54.5 mpg, it will be difficult to continue producing high-performance vehicles such as the Hemi-V8-powered Dodge Challenger.? Such muscle cars, the executive warned, will become ?as rare as white flies.?

Maybe we?ll discover more white flies, countered analyst Jim Hall, of 2953 Analytics.? The industry veteran points out that automakers have been predicting the death of the V-8 since the first CAFE rules went into effect for the 1979 model-year.? Yet, he adds, today?s motorists can buy some of the most powerful automobiles ever produced, including the 1100-horsepower Bugatti Veyron and 600-horsepower versions of the Chevrolet Corvette and Ford Mustang.

The cars on the road by 2025 ?will change less than anybody imagines ? but more than anyone wants,? Hall suggested, explaining that, just as the industry has done every time new mileage rules have been passed, ?They will find a lot of new ways to do things.?

A great example is Chrysler?s new Dodge Dart. The compact sedan makes use of a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine, underbody panels and other aerodynamic improvements, and an advanced 6-speed transmission to boost fuel economy. And Chrysler will roll out a 9-speed automatic next year.?

Improved transmissions can add as much as 5 to 10% better mileage, industry engineers note, and are going into widespread use already. So is stop/start technology that automatically shuts off an engine instead of idling. The engine quickly restarts when the driver?s food lifts off the gas. On the upcoming Honda Accord that could boost mileage by 3% or more.?

A study by automotive supplier Ricardo, Inc., suggests a number of other likely steps makers will take to meet the new rules, such as:

  • A total systems approach to optimize not just the powertrain, but the complete vehicle;
  • A wide array of new powertrain architecture and design solutions;
  • Significant downsizing combined with enhanced boost systems;
  • Greater use of lightweight materials along with new approaches to mass optimization.

General Motors recently invested in a start-up firm developing a way to produce significantly stronger, but notably lighter, steel.? BMW, meanwhile, has invested heavily in firms working to drive down the cost of producing ultra-light carbon fiber, a material widely used in supercars like the Veyron, and in Formula One race cars.

The real question is how much the industry will have to turn towards electrification.? Nearly every major maker now offers at least one hybrid-electric vehicle.? Toyota has promised to add a hybrid option to virtually all its models in the next few years. ?Ford?s new hybrid micro-van, the 2013 C-Max, will be able to get 47 miles per gallon in the combined city/highway test cycle.

A more advanced, plug-in hybrid version, the C-Max Energi, should get significantly better numbers when it comes out next year, the maker hints.? Most makers are also working on plug-ins or going all the way to battery-electric vehicles, such as the Nissan Leaf, with such products getting EPA ratings that approach 100 mpg-e, the ?e? standing for equivalent, the government using a complex formula to estimate how much battery power is equal to a gallon of gas.

Ironically, it?s the State of California, rather than Washington, that is actually driving the sudden rush to battery cars.? The powerful California Air Resources Board has set its own rules requiring a minimum number of so-called Zero-Emission Vehicles from all major automakers.? Those guidelines have been copied by a number of other states.

One reason why it?s unclear how much things might change by 2025 is that the new mileage rules are, to some degree, a figment.? The government operates two sets of books, in effect.? One is based on raw test data.? The other has been revised to reflect what vehicles will get in real-world conditions.? By that measure, expect passenger cars to average 45 mpg by 2025, light trucks 32.?

The other big uncertainty is cost.? GOP Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney has hoisted the banner of critics, some suggesting the new CAF? rules will result in price increases of up to $10,000 per vehicle ? as projected by Michigan Center for Automotive Research.? Skeptics have also warned the result will be lower car sales and fewer American jobs.

?Cars will get more expensive, that?s a given,? said analyst Hall, but like most observers he thinks the figure won?t be nearly as great.

Other studies, such as one from the Boston Consulting Group, put the increase at barely $2,000 to $3,000.? The government?s number is $2,800.? And regulators forecast motorists will save anywhere from $5,700 to $7,400 in gas during the life of those future vehicles.? That?s based on a gallon costing just $3.87.? Most energy experts predict fuel will rise to $5, even $6 or more a gallon before this decade ends, so the savings from the extra mileage could be substantially more.

Serviced Offices Manchester To Help Maximize Your Business ...

With corporate business image gaining maximum relevance for the success or failure of the business in today's fast paced economy, the popularity of serviced offices have increased by leaps and bounds. If you are a Manchester based businessman and want to make sure that the locations and surroundings are conducive to the employees, nothing serves better than serviced offices in Manchester. Frankly speaking, it is unlikely for the workforce to work in a company that has pitiable work ambiance and facilities. So, as a business owner, it is important to ensure that the office meets the employee's needs.

Serviced offices in Manchester are the types of offices that are located in good setting and boasts of work-friendly ambiance and facilities. Such establishments can be rented for a short period of time on a contract basis and one can surrender the house when the matter of transfer or shifting comes. A person is required to pay the required rent for every month and the price includes all the costs such as rent, service charges, furniture etc.

Serviced Offices Manchester -- Reasons behind choosing

Most of the business owners in Manchester prefer to rent a space in serviced offices Manchester. These establishments serve handy for those who are looking for company expansion or contraction. Business that demands extra large space or small floor can make good use of these offices. Apart from the flexibility, what deserves special mentioning about the offices is that it lets tenants get comprehensive services. A tenant or better to say a business house can make good use of the pre-installed or available items or facilities to operate their business in a nice way.

Serviced Offices Manchester -- A Cursory Glance At Its Benefits

If you are considering renting a serviced office space in Manchester for your business, it is necessary to take into account its viable benefits:

Saves Time & Effort

One of the notable benefits of serviced office space is that the office operator can easily manage the IT infrastructure in a proper way. This feature saves ample time and effort as you don't need to spend hours contacting your IT support, whenever there are any technical issues. Though a company has its own computers, but one can expect a ready network. Mind you, there are a handful of operators who offer basic IT services or shared network.

Flexibility

Flexibility is the key phrase for many businesses and the use of serviced offices gives you that. If the area in Manchester, where you are renting the office becomes less favorable for the business to operate, you can always end the contract with that property owner, and look for more business friendly area to relocate whenever necessary.

Cost cutting

Serviced offices keep the cost down, letting you invest the extras in other areas of business. At the time of renting traditional office spaces, price is charged based on per square foot while serviced offices in Manchester are priced per workstation. This serves cost-effective enough. Another good thing about serviced office spaces is that multiple features are available at substantial amount and there is no fluctuation of prices.

So, if you are planning to rent serviced offices in Manchester for your business over having to buy one outright, there seems no better choice than rented serviced offices.

Home insurance is not complete without flood insurance

Homeowners often think because they have a comprehensive homeowner?s insurance policy, that it covers them for flood. Comprehensive policies are among the most expensive policies; however, they give a great range of coverage. They cover water damage as well as fire, theft, and even vandalism. Usually they pay the replacement value. Nevertheless, you should be aware, insurance companies define water damages and flood damages as two different things. Moreover, they are not covered by standard policies.

Water damages come from things like storms that are so violent they damage a portion of the roof allowing water through the roof or wall into a room or attic. It covers driving wind and rain that breaks a window causing water damage to a room. It covers a burst pipe provided you are not negligent in the upkeep of the plumbing. Or, in the case of a frozen pipe bursting, you are covered as long as you did not leave the house unattended for a period of time, without taking preventative measures, such as draining the pipes. Water damage caused by an appliance failure usually covers parts of the house and furniture but not the appliance. If failure of the appliance is the result of poor maintenance, coverage may be denied.

Comprehensive insurance does not cover damages from rains that are so heavy that water seeps into your basement. Seepage is considered a maintenance problem. You can buy additional riders to cover failure of sump pumps to protect against seepage damages. Flood insurance does not cover seepage unless the seepage is the direct result of floodwaters. Floodwaters can be surface water from extremely heavy rains, or from overrun riverbanks and streams. Floods waters are defined as water coming in through a window well or door. Flood insurance will not cover an incident if only your house is affected and it is not the result of a documented regional or local flood.

Flood insurance is provided by NFIP (National Flood Insurance Program), however most companies who sell homeowners insurance also sell flood insurance. It is recommended that all homes carry flood insurance. Floods may be infrequent in your area, but all areas of land, and all elevations are susceptible to floods. Let us help you review insurance quotes from several reputable companies in your area. Ask for quotes on flood insurance and if you have a sump pump in your basement ask about any applicable riders for seepage or sump pumps.

Margaret Paul, Ph.D.: 'Don't I Have a Right to Be Angry?'

I frequently hear this question from my counseling clients: "Don't I have a right to be angry? I have been betrayed (or hurt) and it seems to me that I certainly have a right to be angry in this situation."

My answer is, "Yes, of course you have the right. But what's the point? Is your anger working for you to get you what you want?"

We always have the right to feel whatever we feel. We also have the right to express anger when we feel hurt or betrayed. However, the real question is not whether you have the right, but whether or not your anger is working for you.

Samantha asked this same question in her first Skype session with me. Over two years ago, Samantha had discovered that Brad, her husband of 12 years, had been having numerous affairs. She was devastated, and her response was anger. Two years later she was still angry, and even though Brad had been in therapy for sexual addiction and was no longer having affairs, she was miserable.

"Samantha, what are you hoping for by being angry?"

"I want Brad to feel REALLY awful about what he did so I can be sure he will never do it again."

"So you are punishing him, hoping to have control over him?"

"Yes, I guess that's what I'm doing. I don't want to be hurt like that ever again."

"Since you can't be certain he will never do this again, why have you decided to stay in the relationship?"

"I love him and we have two children."

"So the purpose of your anger is to control him and protect you from feeling your heartbreak and helplessness over him?"

"Well what should I do? Just forgive and act like nothing happened?"

"Samantha, is what you are doing making you happy? Is it bringing you joy? Is it healing your marriage?"

"No, I feel awful most of the time."

"The fact is that this happened, and you can't make it not have happened. And it was heartbreaking for you. You actually have only two viable choices if you want to feel better: You need to accept that Brad did this and is attempting to heal his underlying issues, or you need to get a divorce. The only way you can truly accept it is to stop taking his behavior personally, and learn to manage your feelings of heartbreak and helplessness over him. Anger is generally a cover-up feeling -- covering over deeper, painful feelings such as heartbreak and helplessness over others."

"How can I not take it personally? He did this to me."

"No, he did it out of his own fears, just as you are angry due to your fears. He abandoned himself by having affairs, and now he is learning and healing. You are abandoning yourself by trying to control him with your anger, and hopefully now you will also learn and heal. What would happen if you decided to not take his behavior personally?"

"I would still feel heartbroken."

"Yes, of course you would. And your heartbreak is stuck inside, being blocked and covered over by your anger. Right now, breathe into your heartbreak and let yourself fully feel it. Bring deep kindness, tenderness and compassion to your heartbreak."

Samantha started to sob deeply. I kept reminding her to be very gentle with herself. After awhile, the sobs subsided and Samantha looked relieved.

"How are you feeling now?"

"Better. I've needed to cry like that for a long time. I can see that the anger stopped the pain."

"Samantha, each time the heartbreak comes up, instead of getting angry and covering it up, bring compassion to this very painful feeling and let it release as you just did. How are you feeling about Brad right now?"

"I actually feel some compassion for him too. He had a devastating childhood with no love at all and I'm so glad he is working on his own healing now. He really is a good guy who made some bad mistakes and hurt both of us. And now I've been hurting him with my anger. I don't want to do that anymore."

"I'm very glad to hear that. Compassion for yourself and him will bring about healing, while anger will continue to hurt both of you. Are you willing to begin practicing compassion for yourself and him?"

"Yes!"

Samantha did practice compassion and things began to change between her and Brad. Eventually Brad joined us in conjoint Inner Bonding Skype sessions and was able to learn to have compassion for himself and Samantha. Brad saw that his affairs were a way of trying to get the love that he didn't receive as a child. He saw that he had been treating himself as his parents had treated him -- abandoning himself with much self-judgment, which resulted in his sexual addiction. Sex had become his way of avoiding feeling his painful feelings, just as anger had become Samantha's way of avoiding hers. As both Brad and Samantha learned to be move loving to themselves, they were better able to share their love with each other. Their marriage is healing.

Saudi plan to boost women's employment? Create a women-friendly city.

The Saudi government announced the formation of a women-friendly city in Hofuf, scheduled to open next year. The idea is to increase work opportunities ? without defying religious custom.

By Lisa De Bode,?Correspondent / August 15, 2012

A version of this story published earlier today mistakenly reported that only women would work in the city. A Saudi government report said that it will create job opportunities for both men and women in the area. We apologize for the error.

Women in the Westernized world largely take for granted being able to work and mingle freely with colleagues without fear of repercussions. That's not the case with women in Saudi Arabia: Among those who are allowed to work, most must operate in limited, segregated spaces.

But now the Saudis are addressing that, albeit in an unconventional way. A women-friendly industrial city with built-in segregated work spaces in factories and proximity to residential neighborhoods in Hofuf should create more job opportunities ? but in accordance with religious customs. The Saudi Industrial Property Authority (Modon) says it is slated to open next year.

"I'm sure that women can demonstrate their efficiency in many aspects and clarify the industries that best suits their interests, their nature, and their ability," Modon?s deputy director-general, Saleh Al Rasheed, told the Saudi daily al-Eqtisadiah, according to The Daily Mail.

The motives for the city's development are several. Women can help boost Saudization ? an ailing government program aimed at increasing the proportion of Saudi nationals in a labor market heavily reliant on foreign workers. Interest in diversifying away from oil also plays a role: about 5,000 jobs in textiles, pharmaceuticals, and food-processing industries would be created. And a growing cohort of female graduates who were sent abroad on a government scholarship aren't content with sitting at home anymore.

The Kingdom boasts one of the lowest national female labor participation rates of the region ? at only 15 percent of its active workforce, it's outpaced by Qatar, Bahrain, and Kuwait. About one quarter of those are unemployed, but highly qualified, according to a report issued by consultancy group Booz & Co.

But the number of women entering the workforce, eager to become financially independent from their families, has nearly tripled over the past 10 years. Saudi female business women are generally better educated than male workers ? only 1 percent of business women have no formal education, in contrast to 14.5 percent of the Saudi workforce according to the Monitor Group and the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce & Industry ? and are often regarded as more productive.

But not every woman is ready to give up on her religious beliefs and loosen the strict standards she was raised with. The new women-friendly city will allow such women to balance their religious beliefs and desire to work.

Modon said in a statement that the city would be "characterized by allocating sections equipped for women workers... consistent with the privacy of women according to Islamic guidelines and regulations.?

Trying to break with tradition at a media company

Mashail Almadi, a former human resources executive at Rotana, a media company owned by Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Al Saud, recounts the difficulties she had when trying to hire female employees. In defiance of the Kingdom?s strict dress code, the company does not allow women to wear their abayas at the office, where men and women work alongside one another. ?

?When I mentioned these requirements, some female candidates would just hang up or start yelling at me over the phone,? Ms. Almadi says. Many aren?t ready for such a change. "The prospect of working in a mixed work environment is a scary one for many Saudi women.?

She experienced some of that social resistance first-hand. At a previous job, she wore the niqab, or face-covering veil. At Rotana, this wasn?t necessary anymore. ?But my father didn?t want everyone to know I was working here,? she says, ?to protect the family?s reputation.?

Recent efforts in retail to allow women to sell lingerie and cosmetics are increasing employment, but fall short of addressing the many regulatory challenges female businesswomen face.

Indirect access to government services and capital, the requirement to appoint a male manager, and the absence of proper licenses for female business activities such as beauty salons and women?s fitness centers ? which can only be opened if affiliated with a medical establishment ? persist. Less than half of all female entrepreneurs register their businesses themselves.

Saudi businesswomen rate their experience as most challenging in terms of gender compared to their peers in the Middle East/North Africa region, but are also among the most optimistic about their prospects for growth, according to a survey. The women-friendly city, it is hoped, will contribute to this trend.

Insights on Strategic Planning for Nonprofit Organizations ? Part 1 |

[By?Arturo J. Bencosme-D?vila, CPS Affiliate Faculty with the Master of Nonprofit Management and Dual Language program] ?This is the first in a series of postings on strategic planning in the nonprofit sector. While borrowed heavily from the for-profit world, the approach described here has elements that are specifically useful for nonprofits. It comprises four parts and is based on several major references:? Collins & Porras (2007)[1]; Kaplan & Norton (2007)[2]; Niven (2003)[3]; and Bencosme (2013)[4].

I.???????? Visionary Part: ?This is the alignment station in the process. Clarifying the values that the organization believes in and the purpose that it serves constitutes the starting point. A mission statement will express how values and purpose will be manifested. Next, a portrait of the aspired long term future that results from accomplishing the mission is composed in a vision statement. Finally, visionary objectives embedded in the vision are translated into goals.

II.???????? ?SWOT? and Scenario Analysis Part: ?It refers to scanning for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.? Even though this is a traditional strategic planning tool, it can be far more complex in nonprofits than is for-profits. The organization?s current reality relative to its aspired future is assessed. This sets the stage for developing strategies under several scenarios.

III.???????? Strategy Part: ?A set of mutually supporting themes that will drive the organization to materialize its visionary goals is constructed now:? one theme for each visionary goal. In turn, the themes are translated into strategic enablers from four perspectives namely, beneficiaries and the community, financial accountability, internal processes and organizational learning and growth. The set of measurements for these enablers is a ?balanced scorecard?.? Interconnecting them through causal relationships supporting the strategic themes produces a ?strategy map?:? a powerful, visual tool for becoming a strategy focused organization. Naturally, these maps will be different in nonprofits from their for-profit counterpart.

Transcendence Part:? It consists of story telling the future of the organization to surface and to engage the organization members through grasping meaning in the organization?s trajectory: past, present, and what might lie ahead. The hero?s journey archetype is used as a story guiding pattern to bring an epic spirit to the organization. Just as is important to know:? what is being strived for -a sense of vision; why that is wanted -a sense of values, purpose and mission; and how to strive for it -a sense of strategy;? being mindful of the path of the organization over time is meaningful, specially for nonprofit organizations ?a sense of journey.

[4] Bencosme (2013):? Committing to a Shared Epic Intent ? Organizational Learning along the Hero?s Journey. [Forthcoming]

?

I ? THE VISIONARY PART

The essence of truly powerful visions is formed by the values, purpose and mission underlying it. Values refer to the deep-rooted fundamental beliefs with which the organization identifies itself. They are worthy in and by themselves and have to be identified, defined and their utilization explained through principles. For example, if TRUST ?is one such value, the definition utilized by the organization could be:? the quality of believing into something or someone. And in our organization: ?We build our all relationships on trust? (a principle). Only a handful of values (no more than nine) need to be considered:? those that matter the most to the organization?s identity.

A mission statement describes what the organization offers to its beneficiaries: products and / or services. On the other hand, is necessary to be mindful that missions constitute a particular way of manifesting the purpose of the organization. For example, a nonprofit that provides personal growth tools to inmates in prisons (its mission) contributes in this manner to the wellbeing of those individuals and that of society at large (its purpose).

Mission statements are important to any organization and even more so for non-profits which are frequently referred to as ?mission driven organizations?. This contrasts with the for-profits, which are driven by ?stockholder wealth? optimization.

While mission statements are useful because they clarify what the organization delivers and separates that from what it does not, ?only a shared vision of the successful future of the organization will bring about the alignment needed to accomplish the mission. This insight can mark a valuable difference in organizational leadership. To that end, a useful, effective vision needs to be constructed that will be congruent with the values, purpose and mission.? Visions take the form of? a detailed, vivid narrative -a portrait painted with words- of what will be like and how will feel having attained the goals of the long term, overarching? goals of the organization. The latter are called visionary goals.

There seems to be several routes to develop a vision. One such route starts with establishing the goals and then writing the narrative. A practical procedure for following this route is offered by Collins & Porras (1996)[1]. The opposite route starts with a narrative and then extracts the goals from it. This route relies more on the intuition of those following it. In either case, the important result to obtain is a set of worthwhile goals that invite stretch, are feasible (but not certain), measurable, timely and totally congruent with the underlying essence of the vision: values, purpose and mission.

Next month I?ll present Part II,??SWOT? and Scenario Analysis. We welcome your comments.
