Consists of the abnormal tissue growth, glossy and hard consistency that appears on the skin surface, which is generally referred tumor, which fault is generated when the mechanism that regulates the normal growth of the cells, causing some of them grow out of control and alter their size, shape and function. Thus, normal cells stop multiplying, while abnormal reproduce, damaged tissues, muscles and bones causing cancer.
Skin cancer is a disease in which cancer (malignant) cells are found in the outer layers of your skin. Your skin protects your body against heat, light, infection, and injury. It also stores water, fat, and vitamin D.
The skin has two main layers and several kinds of cells. The top layer of skin is called the epidermis. It contains three kinds of cells: flat, scaly cells on the surface called squalors cells; round cells called basal cells; and cells called melanocytes, which give your skin its color.
Causes * Exposure to the sun for prolonged periods without adequate protection. * Sensitivity to the compounds of the environment. * Burns caused by the Sun * Frequent contact with radiation. * Accidental consumption of arsenic. * Heredity.
Symptoms * Small bumps and non healing wounds. * Hardening, swelling and discoloration of the skin to darker tones.
Diagnosis * In considering the symptoms, the dermatologist may suspect that it is cancer. To check this, it is customary to perform a biopsy, a procedure that involves taking a sample of damaged tissue and examine it.
Prevention * Avoid exposure to sun lamps and tanning beds for prolonged periods. * You must protect your skin by applying sunscreen and blockers. The fair-skinned people, children and babies should be protected by blocking high sun protection factor (SPF), which indicates how long skin can be exposed to the sun without burning. For example, if the skin of a person is exposed to the sun for 10 minutes without burning, using a product with SPF of 40 will protect 40 times longer, so the skin will withstand the effects of the sun for 400 minutes (6 hours 40 minutes). * If you have moles is important to monitor that change their appearance. If they grow, harden, itch or bleed, you should immediately consult a dermatologist.
Treatment * Skin cancer is one of the most common and is usually cured through surgery. Very rarely, radiation therapy is used, i.e., treatment including gamma rays, X, infrared and ultraviolet. * When suffering from sunburn is recommendable to apply creams and emulsions which alleviate symptoms and help healing, which prevents damage to skin cells? * There are food supplements that help improve the patient?s condition.Talk to your doctor.
